How do you successfully complete your project?

DiviD - 12 December 2019
Project

With every project, four main subjects are being identified that keeps the contractor busy. It doesn’t matter which contractor you are speaking to; they are all worries about at least one of the following aspects.

The four most important factors to complete a project successfully: costs, quality, safety and planning.

Do you remain within the budget?

Budgets are essential to complete a project successfully. Controlling costs and being profitable is very important. It will set you able to accept new orders and to continue your company.

A schedule is closely connected with the costs and quality. Usually, a deadline for the completion of the project is set for the contractor. If the contractor is not able to finish it within the date that has been agreed on, there’s a delay. Every month of delay in delivery could make the contractor liable for lost rent revenues. Therefore, it is crucial to work with a tight schedule and budget.

How do you guarantee the quality of your project?

Quality is important for the owner and contractor and it is coherent with the costs. The definition of good quality for the contractor is: I don’t have to go back to fix completed parts as a part of the warranty”. In order to increase the quality of the project, it is recommended to have a decent cost plan and a constructing schedule.

How do you keep your project safe?

Naturally, safety is very important. All employees must get home in one piece every day.  The safety in the constructions business is unfortunately below average compared to other industries. Some accidents are leading to injuries and some even with death as result. The safety of the employees must be guaranteed, provided that the employees are behaving themselves as they should.

For all contractors, each these four subjects are clear. When the estimated costs are close to the realized costs, the quality of deliver is likely to improve and herewith the safety.

What tool do you use to plan?

With the arrival of software, these processes are linked to each other even more. Changes are occurring often in the constructions business but it is also a very expensive business to operate in. It is mandatory to be up to date with all tasks that are being done. This process has been simplified with the introduction of new software. By using this, it is possible to check who needs to do what at any time. This allows you to have a very precise insight in the costs you are making. There’s a clear overview on the project, that increases the chance of the project resulting in a huge success.

Construction companies are still behind if we’re talking about digitalizing. 90% of these companies do not use any constructions software at all. This number will decrease in the following years. As the new regulation will oblige companies to have their registration in a certain way, the need for such a software will increase. How do you think the industry looks with five years?
